Learning outcomes
The outcome of any unit for individual students is contingent upon what each student brings to class and the amount of energy and effort they deploy. However, a student who engages in all class activities with diligence can expect to be able to:1. Efficiently read academic articles, effectively utilise articles for multiple purposes and develop strategies for managing academic expectations around reading and interpreting literature;
2. Critically evaluate literature reviews in topic-relevant disciplines and subject areas according to learned concepts;
3. Connect specific information from existing articles as a basis for identifying implicit themes and issues within a literature;
4. Critically analyse a literature to identify gaps and/or problems; and
5. Use literature to more effectively situate and motivate a research project.

Participation requirements
As per UC policy, this unit is expected to require 300 hours of work. Of this, there will be a set of intensive classes (5 hybrid sessions at 4 hours each including recorded lectures). Students will be expected to do online reading, review of literature and writing, reflecting their own research domain, and assignment preparation work in the remaining hours.
