Humans as Occupational Beings 1 (10308.3)

This unit introduces students to child and adolescent occupations using an occupational development framework and explores the role of occupational therapy in supporting development, wellbeing, and participation across home, school, and community settings. With reference to contemporary capability and competency practice evidence, the unit examines how contextual and societal factors¿including family dynamics, education systems, cultural expectations, and policy frameworks¿influence occupational participation. Students will develop skills in planning and delivering age-appropriate, inclusive, and person-centred interventions.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Articulate the occupational needs of children and young people;
2. Apply the occupational therapy process to address occupational participation of children and young people; and
3. Examine contextual influences on the occupational participation of adults to better practice cultural safety with diverse communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
