Foundations of Occupational Therapy (10300.3)

This unit introduces students to key values, theories, perspectives and concepts that underpin the profession of occupational therapy, including foundational principles from occupational science. The unit examines a range of occupational therapy models that guide practice and considers how these are informed by occupational science. Students learn about the broad scope and diverse settings in which occupational therapy is practised. Through applying an evidence-based approach, students will explore contemporary occupational therapy and occupational science theories and research which inform practice. Students will build reflective practice skills that support learning both in this unit, and throughout their course.

This unit is co-taught with Foundations of Occupational Therapy PG, 8349.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply reflective practice strategies which support development of foundational occupational therapy competencies;
2. Appraise information gathered from comprehensive analysis of occupation; and
3. Apply an evidence-based focus on occupation by drawing upon contemporary theory, research and literature.

Must be enrolled in 10301 Occupational Therapy Toolbox 1 AND must be enrolled in 373JA Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.
