In this capstone unit for the Building and Construction Management degree, students will be tested on their advanced knowledge and understanding of project planning, procurement and contracting, and application of advanced risk, cost, time and resource management techniques. The unit brings together the key elements of the management skills and knowledge required to be effective professionals in the industry.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply strategic, critical thinking and analysis to real world project management case studies;
2. Demonstrate enhanced personal and built environment professional skills;
3. Propose advanced applications of estimation, programming and project management techniques to a case study scenario; and
4. Evaluate real world scenarios and propose building and construction management solutions.

AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF BUILDING (AIB) AND AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF QUANTITY SURVEYRORS (AIQS) REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATES

Both the AIB and AIQS have requirements and expectations for graduates from an accredited course. Submission of assessment items

Special assessment requirements

To gain a pass in this course, student must:

  • complete and submit all assessable items, and
  • achieve an aggregate mark of at least 50%

Late Penalties 

Assignments are required to be loaded to the Canvas site on or before the due date. 

Assignments submitted after the due date will only be assessed if a formal extension of time has been approved prior to the submission due date. Extensions of time are only granted as per University of Canberra's academic assessment policy (https://guard.canberra.edu.au/policy/Academic/Assessment). 

Late assignments will not be accepted after marked assignments have been returned to the class.

All late assignments without an approved extension attract a penalty of 5% per calendar day up to one week. 

An assignment submitted over 7 days late will not be accepted.

Use of Text-Matching Software

The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Participation requirements

This is an intensive unit. Students are strongly encouraged to attend all lectures and tutorials. It may be difficult to pass the unit without attending.
