Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Moderation of assessment items will be conducted in accordance with the Faculty of Health Moderation Guidelines.
Students undertaking the internship stream are required to complete 120 hours of WIL.
To pass the unit, students must:
- submit all hurdle items by the due date
- return equipment to the host organisation (if borrowed); and
- attain at least 50% overall.
Required IT skills
You may be required to use IT that is new to you when on your internship or conducting the industry-based project. You will be shown how to use these IT programs by your supervisor.
Students must travel to internship sites at their own expense. If the student undertakes an internship outside of Canberra or home area they are responsible for the accommodation and transport costs. Students are also responsible for any unexpected costs that may be incurred during the internship.
Work placement, internships or practicums
This unit involves an internship or industry-based project therefore additional student responsibilities are required in addition to those described in this section. Workplace learning requires strict adherence to professional practice principles and ethics. Client/patient confidentiality must always be maintained (see WIL guidelines and the 10120 Student Handbook on UCLearn), including for assessment items such as reports or reflections. The professional nature of this unit also recommends 100% participation at all learning activities (workshops, practicals etc. if scheduled – see Section 3) for the successful completion of this unit (also see Section 6c). If attendance requirements cannot be satisfied (e.g., timetable clash), it is recommended that you meet with your Unit Convener to schedule this unit for a future teaching period.
Students who are found to breach the student code of conduct, internship conditions as set in the Internship Learning Agreement, not engage with the internship, are unprofessional or do not attend meetings as set by the unit convener or internship supervisor will be placed on an internship management plan. This plan will be discussed with the student and the internship supervisor prior to implementation. Failure to follow the internship management plan may result in the student being removed from their internship and will result in a fail grade for this unit.
If borrowing equipment from the host organisation, students are to ensure they take care not to damage or lose the equipment. Students who do damage or lose the equipment and not return equipment borrowed from the host organisation by the completion of the internship may be at risk of failing this unit.
