Learning outcomesOn successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

Students will also be provided with recommended supplementary readings (journal articles, professional guidelines, website links etc) that will assist in the completion of their assessment tasks, and their preparation for professional practice on placement and following graduation.

Students must pass the Practical Assessment (Initial client consultation, clinical documentation and reflection) to successfully pass the unit.
Late submissions for all assessment tasks will aquire a 5% per day penalty.
Assessment items are moderated, as per University of Canberra assessment moderation policy.
Special assessment requirements
If you fail this assessment you will be give one opportunity to re-sit. If you pass the re-sit attempt, you will receive a maximum grade of 50% only for the assessment. If you fail the re-sit attempt, then you will fail the unit.
Use of text matching software
As part of this unit, all students will be asked to allocate themselves to one hydrotherapy class that will be run by AEP Sophie Bullock at the University of Canberra Hospital (UCH) Hydrotherapy Pool. This will enable you to experience a hydrotherapy class first hand from an experienced AEP working in hydrotherapy, and prepare students for placements where hydrotherapy is part of treatment options provided to clients by AEPs.
Two sessions will be offered per week from Wednesday 7th to Monday 26th April 2021 inclusive and will be scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5pm. The UCH hydrotherapy pool has a maximum capacity of 10 people per class, therefore you must allocate yourself to one of the available timeslots that will be posted on Canvas in week 1. Due to COVID-19, the change rooms are currently limited to 4 people. It is therefore recommended that students come to the hydrotherapy classes in swimmers to avoid the use of the change rooms. Students will need proficient swimming ability to attend the hydrotherapy classes (e.g. to tread water in deep end of pool for 2 minutes). Students who do not have swimming proficiency can watch the session from the pool deck if they wish.
It is strongly encouraged that students engage with recommended readings and supplementary resources, and contribute actively to classroom and online discussions in this unit.
Students are required to attend all weekly workshops for this unit, including any additional workshop sessions within semester, as this unit contains key learning concepts for professional accreditation and practice as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist in Australia
Workshop sessions for this Unit may not be recorded, due to the room allocation this semester. Therefore, non-attendance to workshop sessions may increase student risk of poor assessment performance or failing the unit; and may disadvantage students in their future placement activities and performance.
Required IT skills
This unit requires students to engage in progressive online discussion forums with their peers, as well as resourcing information online for assessments.
The following costs are expected for this unit:
- Use of own electronic device during workshops, or self-printing of electronically-provided material;
- Costs for internet access if required outside the UC campus
Work placement, internships or practicums
This Unit does not formally contain any Work Integrated Learning (WIL) requirements (clinical placements and externships). However, the content of this Unit is closely tied to preparation for clinical placements, which are formally undertaken within other units in the Bachelor of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation.
Announcements made at lectures are deemed to be made to the whole group. Information and announcements will also be made on Canvas.
Students should dress appropriately for physical activity and act responsibly and safely while completing assigned tasks. If any student has reason to believe that they will be unable to participate fully in any of the practicals, please confer with the unit convenor prior to the class commencing.
