MRS Residency 1 PG (6cp) (10044.3)

This unit commences students' medical radiation science clinical residency and their detailed development of skills that underpin the professional practice of diagnostic radiography. These residencies provide the opportunity for students to refine their clinical skills and develop automatous beginning practitioner skills in a supervised environment. Students will further refine their critical evaluation and reflective practice skills.

Students are required to pass each placement and related competency tasks to successfully complete this unit.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Under indirect supervision, plan, safely perform and critically evaluate routine and complex radiographic examinations to begin to meet professional capabilities;
2. Practise independently in an advanced ethical, professional and culturally safe manner, applying radiation safety principles and legal standards in the clinical setting under indirect supervision;
3. Demonstrate advanced interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills applicable to the practice of diagnostic radiography and within the interprofessional healthcare system, with critical reflection upon examination outcomes and maintaining safe, respectful and effective care to all patients; and
4. Adapt specialised knowledge and skill in diverse contexts, applying specialist radiographic approaches appropriate to patient presentations, recognising and responding to deteriorating patients and undertake action to ensure appropriate management.

Prerequisites

Must have completed 45 credit points from 340JA Master of Medical Imaging.

Corequisites

Enrolment in 340JA Master of Medical Imaging.
