This unit introduces students to health promotion as a conceptual framework, a field of practice and an integral part of the broader public health field. This unit is co-taught with the postgraduate unit of the same name. The lectures are the same but assessment tasks are appropriate to the relevant degree level.
1. Demonstrate awareness of the historical origins of health promotion;
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of health promotion;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of, and capacity to apply the conceptual framework of contemporary health promotion practice;
4. Demonstrate an understanding of, and capacity to undertake of health promotion evaluation practices;
5. Demonstrate an awareness of challenges to health promotion in a changing world; and
6. Demonstrate the capacity to critically analyse health promotion practice.

Participation requirements
Students are expected to participate by undertaking the readings and assessment tasks. While the pacing of this unit is structured around a weekly participation by downloading and listening to the lectures, undertaking the readings and undertaking any relevant assessment tasks, students may choose to work at their own pace as long as assessment deadlines are still met. Students must complete all assessment items to pass this unit.
