"Gulwan", a gift to the Whanganui Hospital

In September 2017 members of the UC CIRI Restorative Health project visited the Whanganui District Health Board in New Zealand to talk to staff and members of the community and to see Restorative Health in practice. The Restorative Health team presented a gift from the University of Canberra and the Ngunnawal community to the Whanganui Hospital.

The gift was a painting by local Ngunnawal artist, Lynnice Church. Titled 'Gulwan' (meaning 'sisters' in the Ngunnawal language), the painting is about the sister bond between the artist's mother and Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Roslyn Brown. It illustrates that no matter how far apart they may appear they are always joined by the bonds of friendship.

The painting acknowledges the bond that has developed between the Whanganui Hospital and the Restorative Health team, and their shared hopes for the new ACT Government/UC Public Hospital and Indigenous health and wellbeing.
