Education has the power to change lives and by giving a gift to the UC Foundation Scholarship Fund or the UC Student Empowerment Fund, you can help UC students achieve their dreams.

For many students, studying at the University of Canberra represents a bright future, an opportunity to change their life for the better and achieve their dreams. Unfortunately for some, the added financial strain can cause those dreams to shatter and become unachievable.

For UC Student Masuda Zafari, her degree in medical science was interrupted when she had to flee from the new Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

Living in Kabul, Masuda was passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people when she decided to pursue a career in healthcare. During a period of unrest, her mother, four sisters, and brother all fled the country to Pakistan but Masuda knew that if she joined them, her higher education dreams would be over.

In 2023, Masuda was awarded a UC Foundation Scholarship enabling her to resume her studies and pursue her aspirations in healthcare, following her relocation to Australia on a humanitarian visa.

In 2023 the UC Foundation awarded 16 scholarships to students from rural or remote areas, Indigenous and refugee backgrounds, and students living with a disability. Unfortunately, 56 other eligible applicants missed out, leaving them without access to financial support, that could make or break their university dreams.

With your support, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of these deserving individuals. By alleviating financial burdens and providing necessary support, we can empower them to pursue their academic aspirations without compromising their well-being or future prospects.

The UC foundation scholarship has greatly lightened my financial problems and has helped me to focus more on my studies.

As the cost of living continues to rise, so does the number of students who need support. The Student Empowerment Fund exists to provide students with immediate financial support when they need it most, enabling them to continue their studies.

“The Student Empowerment Fund helped me at a time when I was struggling financially, it really changed my life.”

Last year, thanks to the generosity of people like you, the Student Empowerment Fund supported 173 students with accommodation, loan devices, grocery and food vouchers, medical support and/or placement related support, with a further 250 students receiving an end-of-year food hamper from the UCX Food Pantry.

A gift to the Student Empowerment Fund will ensure students in need receive healthy meals, emergency housing, textbooks or learning equipment, essential hygiene supplies, household items and travel costs to and from university and work.

Your gift will make a tangible difference to a student’s life. To receive a charitable deduction on your tax return, please make your gift by 30 June.
