Help students focus on learning—not their next meal

The UCX Food Pantry provides free groceries and essential household items to University of Canberra students experiencing financial hardship. For many students, it offers more than food. It provides dignity, stability and peace of mind during some of the most challenging periods of their studies.
As the cost of living continues to place pressure on students, demand for the pantry continues to grow. In 2025, the pantry welcomed more than 30,000 visits from students and supported 3,628 individual students—more than a quarter of the Bruce campus student population. Every donation helps ensure this vital support remains available for students who need it most.
Growing demand, growing impact
The need for food relief on campus continues to increase.
In 2025 the UCX Food Pantry:
- Supported 3,628 unique students, a 19% increase on the previous year.
- Recorded 30,293 student visits, representing a 25% increase from 2024.
- Served 1,049 students in a single week—its busiest week on record.
The trend has continued into 2026. So far this year, the pantry has already welcomed:
- 14,213 student visits
- 2,449 individual students
- A record day supporting 363 students, with 1,061 students accessing the pantry in one week.
Students experiencing the greatest financial hardship are also seeking more support. Referrals from the University of Canberra Wellbeing team for additional food assistance doubled during Semester 1, 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.
A small space making a big difference
The UCX Food Pantry operates for just three hours a day, three days a week. Even within those limited opening hours, demand can be extraordinary. On the busiest days, volunteers and staff have supported more than two students every minute—approximately one student every 30 seconds.
Behind every visit is a student working to stay enrolled, succeed in their studies and build a brighter future.
