OpenSI Research Fund

Advancing Open Source Innovation for Research, Education, and Industry

OpenSI aims to lead as Australia’s primary non‑profit organisation dedicated to supporting Open Source Technologies (OST) across research, development, teaching, and practical application. Our mission is to strengthen the role of open‑source solutions in enabling collaboration, driving innovation, and supporting a digital ecosystem that is sustainable, transparent, and accessible.

Philanthropic support plays a vital role in this work.

Your donation helps OpenSI bridge the gap between industry and academia by advancing research and applied solutions built on open‑source technologies. We focus on developing sustainable open‑source business models and translating university research into tools and practices that benefit partners, communities, and the wider society.

Your contribution also directly supports emerging researchers.
Donor support enables PhD candidates and research assistants to undertake applied research, create open‑source software, and contribute to global open‑source communities. These opportunities build capability within the sector and foster collaborative innovation that benefits education, industry, and society as a whole.

By supporting OpenSI, you help strengthen Australia’s open‑source ecosystem and create pathways for impactful, community‑driven innovation.

The OpenSI Research Fund stipend has been vital in advancing my doctoral research on using artificial intelligence for open‑source workflow automation. Through this support, I have contributed to CoSMIC (Cognitive System of Machine Intelligent Computing), an open‑source project built on open‑source large language models. This opportunity has enabled me to publish several papers on agentic AI while meaningfully giving back to the open‑source community.
