Flexibility and Leave

Workplace Flexibility

We place a high-value on workplace flexibility and the benefit this brings to enriching our workplace experience and work/life balance for our employees. We recognise that there is not a one-size-fits all approach to working. Depending on the nature of the role, our employees can access regular hybrid working arrangements, which provides work/life flexibility, supports workplace productivity and embraces the diversity of our workforce.

Leave Benefits

We have committed to providing conditions that support a rich workplace experience, balanced to support your lifestyle and your wellness.

End of Year Close-Down

Each year, the University closes-down between 25 December and the first working day following 1 January. Our employees are not required to use their leave entitlements during this period.

Recreation and Personal/Carers Leave

In addition to the end of year close-down, we provide four (4) weeks of recreational leave each year, in addition to 20 days personal/carers leave, which continues to accrue year on year.

Parental Leave

We have committed to providing a supportive environment for staff with family responsibilities including:

  • Parental Leave provision of up to 30 weeks (at full pay)
  • Keeping in touch days to support the transition back to work
  • Progressive adoption and surrogacy leave provisions

We have been an accredited Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace since 2013.

Long Service Leave

Our employees (excluding casuals) accrue long service leave at rates above the legislated minimum. Our employees accrue long service leave at 6.5 days per year (13 weeks over 10 years). Employees based on our Bruce campus can access their pro-rata long service leave after 7 years.

Additional Leave types

In addition to the above, UC provides employees with a range of other leave entitlements including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural leave, leave without pay, purchased leave, miscellaneous leave and study leave options.
