UC remains in the top 20 in the world in THE Young University Rankings 2022

16 February 2022: The Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings for 2022 have just been released, with the University of Canberra remaining in the top 20 in the world and number two in Australia.

The THE rankings systems are considered one of the largest, most trusted and diverse of its kind, assessing over 1,600 universities in 99 countries during the calendar year in various areas, including subjects, overall performance and region-specific rankings.

Using a similar methodology to the THE World University Rankings, the Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger, with over 539 universities ranked in this year’s results.

Universities are analysed according to 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations (which denote research influence), international outlook (for staff, students and research), and industry income.

The University of Canberra has consistently remained in the top 20 for the last three years since breaking into the top 100 in 2017.

Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Enterprise Professor Mick Cardew-Hall said the University’s continued performance in the Young University Rankings results are a reflection of the University’s purpose and identity – a young and dynamic civic university committed to meaningful research and preparing our students for the workforce.

“UC continues to make its mark, with a steady position in the top 20 young universities worldwide,” Professor Cardew-Hall said.

“This is a testament to our vision to create not only a positive experience for our students, but also to equip them for life after University and give them the best possible arsenal with which to begin their careers.”

“The results also acknowledge the quality of the research coming out of UC and the world-class teaching staff we are so fortunate to have here,” he said.

“Particularly in light of the challenges of the past year, which required patience, resilience and adaptability from both staff and students, domestically and internationally, these results reinforce and reward the great work being done at UC.”
