UC celebrates with new alumni

27 September 2018: Almost 800 members of the University of Canberra community have transitioned from students to alumni this week.

The University held four graduation ceremonies at the Australian Institute of Sport on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The graduates celebrated the end of their time as students having completed degrees in law, IT, science, education, graphic design, health, sports studies and more.

The University also conferred honorary doctorates to Meredith Edwards and Peter Fricker.

Dr Edwards was recognised for her outstanding role as a leader, lecturer, researcher and policy analyst in economics and public policy, while Dr Fricker’s commitment to the sports industry through his role as a sports physician was honoured.

“Our biggest achievement and greatest source of pride is our students,” Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Saini said. “We have celebrated their success with gusto and a smile.

“We hope that as they enter the next chapter of their lives, our enthusiasm for their time at the University of Canberra is surpassed only by their own.”

A special celebration event was also held on Tuesday evening for members of the Canberra College of Advanced Education. More than 50 alumni attended the event, which was part of the University’s 50 Years of Education celebrations, and were presented with a University of Canberra certificate that recognises their CCAE qualifications.

The event was a chance for graduates to relive their graduation day and celebrate how far the University has come since first beginning as the Canberra College of Advanced Education in 1968.
