12 December 2014: The University of Canberra has been named the AUS Overall University Per Capita Champion at this year's Australian University Games (AUGs) in Sydney, beating 40 other universities.
The University of Canberra's team of 62 students competed in 10 sports across the five days of competition in Sydney, including basketball, taekwondo, futsal, touch football, volleyball and cycling.

University of Canberra Union CEO Joe Roff said winning the per capita championship is a good step forward for the University and a further sign of the value of our sporting partnerships, clubs, and pathways.
"Last year we finished 12th overall on the per capita championship, so to move into the top position in one year is a really good performance from all the athletes involved and recognises the quality of our athletes," Mr Roff said.
The award rewards the performance of those universities with a smaller student population and comes on the back of top achievements throughout the year, with University of Canberra teams taking out titles at the Eastern University Games (EUGs) in Newcastle in July and then at the AUGs in September.
The men's futsal team won gold at the EUGs and took the top spot in division two at the AUGs. Part of the team, student Bradley Moore, said they were excited to win and hope other students interested in futsal will compete next year.
"I hope we can pave the way for UC futsal next year and the year after, so that they can go to the games and represent UC," Mr Moore said. "A lot of people at UC are extremely good futsal players but aren't even aware that this competition is available."
At the AUGs in September the men's volleyball team won gold in division two, the mixed touch team won bronze and the women's basketball team came fifth in division two.
At the EUGs in July, UC1 cricket took out silver in a tight final against the University of Western Sydney. Sam Briggs won bronze in women's tennis and UC1's women's netball and mixed ten pin bowling both came in fourth.
