Groovin’ the Moo heats things up on campus

30 April 2014: More than 14,000 revellers attended a chilly Groovin’ the Moo at the University of Canberra on Sunday, with some of music’s biggest international and national names turning up the heat to keep them warm.

In its fifth year on campus, the festival once again attracted top acts to two stages and a dance tent for almost 12 hours of live music.

Canberra locals Peking Duk were an early hit, with their latest song ‘High’ starting the day on just that. Melbourne band Kingswood got the crowd’s vocal cords warmed up, with lead singer Fergus Linacre jumping into the mosh pit and handing the microphone to punters to sing along.

As the sun went down and the temperature dropped, an intense set from Karnivool fronted by Ian Kenny, also of Birds of Tokyo fame, helped heat things up.

The haunting melodies of The Jezabels were also an evening crowd pleaser, but it was headline act east London’s Dizzee Rascal who really got punters jumping. No stranger to the University campus having played here in 2011, the British chart-topper's hits ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and ‘Bonkers’ kept the crowd moving through the night.

Aussie headliner The Presets smashed out a mix of old favourites like ‘My People’ and new tunes including ‘Youth in Trouble’. Whilst UK duo Disclosure’s unique mix of house beats and melodic synths in songs like ‘Latch’ left the crowd mesmerised, capping off a big day of music from some of the hottest artists in the world.
