Almost 1,000 University of Canberra (UC) students will graduate at four ceremonies over the next two days at the National Convention Centre Canberra (NCCC).
Chancellor Ms Lisa Paul AO PSM will confer degrees on the 904 graduands, of whom 543 have completed their undergraduate studies; 361 will celebrate the milestone moment of their postgraduate journey.
“Each graduate has a unique story of perseverance, growth and achievement. Moments like these give us a chance, as the UC community, to recognise the commitment that has brought our students to this day and to celebrate the positive impact they will make in our communities and beyond for years to come,” Ms Paul said.
Professor the Honourable Bill Shorten, Vice-Chancellor and President of UC said that graduations are a celebration of the University’s determination to continually adapt to the shifting workplace landscape, and ensure that our graduates are ready to enter the workforce.
“The world of work is constantly evolving, so it's important that UC not only keeps up but leads, so that our graduates are constantly at the forefront of their fields. To see close to 1,000 graduates join our over 100,000-strong alumni cohort is a powerful illustration of how UC is shaping changemakers of the future.
“One of the core attributes for UC is to produce graduates that are ready to hit the ground running with the knowledge, critical thinking and qualifications to back them when they leave UC.”
A distinguished lineup of high-profile speakers will share their insights at each ceremony, drawing on their impactful professional and personal experiences to motivate and inspire the new UC alumni.
Speakers include Attorney-General The Honourable Michelle Rowland MP, Minister for Education The Honourable Jason Clare MP, leading international researcher, clinician and advocate for the youth mental health reform agenda Professor Patrick McGorry AO, and founder and leading Canberra entrepreneur Greg Boorer.
“Each of these guest speakers has inspirational advice to share, coupled with a wealth of knowledge and experience, and there is no doubt that our newest alumni will leave their ceremony with some essential pearls of wisdom to carry with them,” Professor Shorten said.
