UC welcomes Budget commitments to the University

The University of Canberra welcomes today’s announcements by the Australian Government that the upcoming budget will enable us to teach more Canberrans and begin the work on a new indoor sporting venue.

UC has been allocated 108 additional places as part of the 20,000 Commonwealth Supported Places announced today. In particular this will support us to deliver education in the critical areas of nursing, midwifery and allied health, psychology, teaching, software and IT engineering.

“The growth of places at UC is a great outcome for Canberra and the region as we’re able to deliver more student places in areas we know have both significant shortages and are critical to our community” said University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Paddy Nixon. “The Government’s focus on supporting Australians from under-represented backgrounds is critical to a more equal society. UC leads the world rankings in reducing inequalities and we have a strong history of supporting first in family students and Indigenous Australians.”

Also confirmed today, the Australian Government will deliver on the election commitment to support the next steps on Sports Hub 2 at UC. “UC has a well developed sports strategy. As a centre for community and elite sports the next step is to deliver a large scale indoor sports facility; integrating research into sport and exercise science with elite and community sport,” said Professor Nixon.
