Biography

Dr Beth Chapman’s career of more than 20 years spans science, research, and education. She completed her PhD in the field of Zoology in 2008 and spent a decade working with CSIRO’s National Biological Collections leading high-performing teams, delivering education and outreach programs, and publishing in the fields of entomology, biodiversity informatics and citizen science.

Beth’s passion for education and outreach led to a career change in 2019 and the completion of a Masters of Secondary Teaching at the University of Canberra, specialising in science. Beth’s expertise in science education and data storytelling led to her appointment as convenor and lecturer for the unit Using Data to Improve Learning. In addition, she collaborates with other academic staff in delivering units on science pedagogy and understanding the Australian Curriculum. Beth is the Program Director for Post Graduate Education in 2023.

Beth’s research interests include:

  • Development and design of the Australian science curriculum.
  • Student understanding and interpretation of scientific diagrams and data visualisations.
