Biography
Barbara has taught adult education and community development for over twenty years. She was the leader of the first bilingual offshore masters program developed in the Faculty of Education in collaboration with Hangzhou Normal University, PR China. As a community educator, Barbara has worked with rural communities, environmental education, women’s issues, youth and the aged, as well as in HIV/AIDS, disability and sexuality education.
Barbara has developed a number of innovative research and evaluation methodologies that are effective with multi-stakeholder projects and in groups where there is low literacy or where English is a second language. These include using digital cameras, visual activities, World Café and empowerment evaluation approaches.
Her current major research project is funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and uses a collaborative methodology designed with Papua New Guinea professionals to examine and address the business acumen needs and training issues facing women smallholder producers of food crops.
