Biography

Rowena has worked in the early childhood education and care profession for 30 years. Rowena has enjoyed a diverse career having had the privilege of working in teaching and leadership roles, regulatory and advisory roles and more recently as a research engagement manager.

Learning and teaching is at the core of what has driven Rowena throughout her career, both in relation to herself, those she works alongside and the children in her care. In 2019 Rowena was awarded ACT Education and Care Pedagogical Leader of the Year, she maintains a strong commitment to rights-based education and is a passionate advocate for the early childhood profession across Australia.

Rowena also undertakes a range of volunteer roles within the ACT early childhood education and care sector, including as the Early Child Australia (ECA) ACT Vice President, Co-Editor of the Every Child magazine and a member of the ECA Publication Advisory Committee.

At the University of Canberra, Rowena is employed as the Academic Lead and Director of Wiradjuri Preschool and Child Care Centre, and also teachers with in the university’s new Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to Five). Rowena’s academic interests include early childhood leadership and oral language and early literacy skills.
