Katrina Larobina's internship with Parbery Consulting

Katrina recently completed her internship with Parbery Consulting as part of her Bachelor of Communication and Media (Marketing Communication).

Katrina enjoys anything to do with social media and wants to continue to build on and apply existing skills. By creating visuals and written copy for Parbery's social media pages, Katrina had the opportunity to review the performance of existing content, record trends and provide recommendations that could be leveraged for future content. Having learnt these skills in the Digital Engagement and Analytics unit, she felt confident in understanding Parbery's primary target audience. She could create attention-grabbing, informative and on-brand captions and graphics to generate two-way engagement.

"My understanding of social media gained throughout my degree meant that I could provide some recommendations for managing Parbery's social media, for example, posting during active periods and using hashtags to reach new audiences."

Katrina was also keen to be exposed to other areas of communication to see how her learnings applied to different fields. Throughout her internship, Katrina gained experience working in a broader communications role. She was allowed to work on various internal tasks for the business, including content creation using Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite, internal communications, social media management, copywriting and photo-editing. Through this experience, Katrina deepened her understanding of the day-to-day tasks completed by communications professionals. She also better understood the potential career paths to pursue once she graduates.

Katrina is now working at Parbery Consulting as a Marketing and Creative Assistant. She believes she secured the role based on her eagerness to learn, having a 'can-do attitude' and trying to actively help out across other business lines when needed.

Words of wisdom from Katrina

"Before commencing an internship, do some research on some potential organisations. Find a workplace where you are passionate about their work, feel comfortable and can be supported. During your placement, embrace the experience with an open mind and make the most of the opportunities that come your way. It is a chance to learn, gain new knowledge and grow, both in a personal and professional context. After completing 100 hours of workplace learning, you'll walk away with many new connections and relationships and possibly open doorways for your future career."
