Off-Campus Accommodation
For those students who have either been unable to secure accommodation on-campus or who have decided they would prefer to live off-campus, you will need to find and secure off-campus accommodation.
Where you choose to live will obviously have a significant impact on your lifestyle, budget, studies and health. It is therefore important to consider all aspects of the available accommodation (including potential drawbacks) before making a choice.
In saying this though, it is also important to remember that due to the current shortage of accommodation you may not initially be able to find or secure what you consider to be your "ideal" form of accommodation and will need to make your choice from what is available.
The different forms of accommodation that are available off-campus include:
Temporary/Short-term accommodation
Australian Sports Commission Accommodation
Warning - Rental Scams
Internet accommodation scams can occur that target overseas and interstate students.
The offender/s use property rental websites to claim they have an apartment or house to rent and invite prospective tenants to apply online.
The offender states that upon successful rental application and the transfer of bond/rent money, the key will be sent via courier or express post.
Victims do not receive the key to the premises, contractual agreements nor their money back.
Crime Prevention Advice:
1. If you are interested in a rental property, make sure you view the premises in person and ensure the landlord/real estate agent is present.
2. Be careful of the information you pass on in your application forms, as this may be used for identity fraud. Ensure the legitimacy of the application before sending any personal information online.
3. For international students, be cautious of using wire transfer as a payment method because this payment may be very difficult to cancel by the time the fraud is reported.
