External Membership of the Library

Everyone is permitted to read in the Library, but you must apply for membership before you can borrow from the collection.

Membership Application Forms

Membership application forms and information regarding entitlements are available at the Information and Loans Desk in the Library or by selecting the following:

Library External Membership Application Form (PDF 53kb) for staff /students of Australian Universities or Canberra Institutions under the ACTUAL arrangement as listed below.

Library Alumni Membership Form (PDF 70kb)

Library Community Membership Application Form (PDF 56kb)

When you apply for Library membership, you will need to bring personal identification, e.g. a drivers licence or passport, and proof of employment or a current student card from your University or Institution and proof of your address.

A Library membership card will be issued when registration is completed.

You must collect your membership card in person.

Staff / Students from Australian Universities

If you are a staff member or student from an Australian University, you are welcome to join the Library at no cost.

Canberra Institutions / Universities

If you belong to one of the Institutions or Universities in Canberra listed below, you may apply for membership under the ACTUAL arrangement at no cost.

  • Australian Catholic University (Signadou campus) - Staff and students
  • Australian Defence Force Academy - Staff and students
  • Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - staff only
  • Australian National University - Staff and students
  • Canberra Institute of Technology - Staff and students 
  • Department of Defence (Canberra Office) - Staff only
  • National Gallery of Australia - Staff only
  • Public Service Commission - Staff only

University of Canberra Alumni

If you are a University of Canberra Alumni member, you may join the Library at no cost. Alumni membership forms are available from the Alumni Office in Room 1C73 or can be accessed through the Alumni link on the University of Canberra homepage.

Community Members

Individual community members may apply for membership.

The current fee is $99.00 per annum; $49.50 for 6 months or $27.50 for 3 months, GST inclusive.

Payment must be made before registration will proceed. 

Payment can be made at the Student Centre, Building 1, Level B, between the hours 9:00am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

A tax invoice will be issued on payment of the fee.

Corporate Members

Companies, organisations and institutions may join as corporate members. A charge is levied on the level of access required.
