External Membership of the Library

Everyone is permitted to read in the Library, but you must apply for membership before you can borrow from the collection.

Loan Periods and Library Services

  • You may borrow a maximum of 10 items from the general collection
  • You may renew items if there are no reservations on them
  • You may place reservations on any general items that are out on loan
  • You may use our Interlibrary Loans/Document Delivery Service - charges apply
  • You may ask for Research Desk assistance at the discretion of staff
  • Photocopiers are available for you to use - charges apply
  • You may not borrow items that are identified as 7 day or 3 hour loan
  • You are not able to access e-resources due to educational licence agreements

Membership

Membership application forms are available under the sub-headings below or at the Information and Loans Desk in the Library.

When you apply for Library membership, you will need to bring personal identification, e.g. a drivers licence or passport, and proof of employment or a current student card from your University or Institution and proof of your address.

A Library membership card will be issued when registration is completed.

You must collect your membership card in person.

Staff/Students from Australian Universities and Canberra Institutions

If you are a staff member or student from any Australian University, you are welcome to join the Library at no cost.

If you belong to one of the Institutions in Canberra listed below, you may apply for membership under the ACTUAL arrangement at no cost: 

  • Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - staff only
  • Canberra Institute of Technology - Staff and students 
  • National Gallery of Australia Research Library - Staff only
  • National Sports Information Centre - Staff only
  • Calvery Health Care, ACT

University of Canberra Alumni

If you are a University of Canberra Alumni member, you may join the Library at no cost. Alumni membership forms are available from the Alumni Office in Room 1C73 or can be accessed through the Alumni link on the University of Canberra homepage.

Community Members

Individual community members may apply for membership.

The current fee is $99.00 per annum; $49.50 for 6 months or $27.50 for 3 months, GST inclusive.

Payment must be made before registration will proceed. 

Payment can be made at the Student Centre, Building 1, Level B, between the hours 9:00am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

A tax invoice will be issued on payment of the fee.

Corporate Members

Companies, organisations and institutions may join as corporate members. A charge is levied on the level of access required.
