Creative Project 2 focuses on the independent conceptualisation, planning and realisation of a student-generated work/s in their creative field. The unit aims to introduce the student to working independently as a freelance creative, applying all principles and skills gained from previous core units. The unit is based on a model of academic supervision and is intended to pave the way towards independent modes of learning crucial in the industry and at post graduate levels of study.


Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

2. Manage the project effectively and record, document and evaluate the project experience; and
3. Employ communication skills in an academic and/or creative context.

Learner engagement

In order to get the most out of your studies, it is strongly recommended that you plan your time commitments, actively engage in class discussions (online or face-to-face) and work with your peers as part of your study. The amount of time you will need to spend on study in this unit will depend on a number of factors including your prior knowledge, learning skill level and learning style. Nevertheless, in planning your time commitments you should note that for a 3 credit point unit the total notional workload over the semester or term is assumed to be 150 hours. The total workload for units of different credit point value should vary proportionally. For example, for a 6 credit point unit the total notional workload over a semester or term is assumed to be 300 hours.

Participation requirements

Learning will be most effective in this course when students and staff engage face to face: students are therefore expected to attend and actively participate in all lectures and workshops.

Students are expected to work independently on projects, but are also expected to stay in close contact with supervisors throughout the project timeline.

If a student misses lectures or workshops it may negatively impact on their final assessments, due to them having missed important educational information and material. 

Announcements that are made at lectures, and via class email, are deemed to be made to the whole group.

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, however, it is extremely important that if students feel unwell, they do not attend on-campus classes, and instead contact their unit convenor for advice about how they can continue to participate in the unit.    

Students who attend campus for class or other purposes must play their part in keeping our campus and community safe by following these basic guidelines to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission:

  • Practise good hand hygiene, washing hands regularly;
  • If you do happen to cough or sneeze, please do so into the crook of your elbow, dispose of tissues immediately and wash hands immediately
  • Practise effective physical distancing;
  • Follow all directions of teaching and other UC staff regarding safety measures;

Required IT skills

This unit assumes IT and media production skills in line with the prerequisite units. Students should be comfortable designing, developing and producing digital media in a range of forms.
