The subject introduces the student to methods of independent learning including time management, short and long term planning, reinforcing learning, developing effective study habits, overcoming writer's block, developing examination techniques and adjusting to the University community generally. The student will be encouraged to explore their own reactions to the stresses of University life and to develop strategies for managing their involvement in study so as to maximise their success.

Must be enrolled in The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation Program.

Special assessment requirements

If you have been sick or have any other reason which you feel should not incur the late penalty then please contact the Unit Convenor/tutor for discussion. Please note that students are able to resubmit assignments if required by the tutor.

Use of Text-Matching Software

The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Students are expected to participate in all classes where possible as this develops engagement with the unit content.

Required IT skills

This unit involves work with computers and software and students must have access to a laptop or desktop computer.

Only the Student Services and Amenities fee needs to be paid by Friday week 4.
