The emphasis in this unit is not just the final production, but how students, individually and collaboratively, came to develop, film and complete their filmic essay.
Students taking this unit will have successfully completed Reading the Screenplay, and come with a revised Treatment from that unit, ready to form groups and begin production.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Demonstrate an understanding of film production as a creative practice;
2. Demonstrate the ability to work independent of others in pursuit of a collaborative production; and
3. Manage and develop a workflow for a small project.

Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
Submission of Work. All work must be completed and submitted by the due date. Work submitted after the due date will only be assessed on a pass or fail basis and without comments, unless an extension has been given. Extensions will not be given automatically on application.
Work submitted more than one week after the due date will only be assessed at the lecturer's discretion and the pass or fail mark might be subject to an additional ten percent downgrade.
Extensions will only be given for substantial medical or similar reasons. Workload pressures from other units, or outside employment, are not valid reasons for an extension. Participants must request an extension at least two days before the due date and state the reason for the extension, and the length of the extension sought. If an extension is given work must be submitted by the extension date. Work submitted after the agreed extension date will not be assessed and will receive an automatic fail. Extensions will not be given automatically on application.
Please note that even if an extension is given students are still required to submit their work-in-progress by the original due date of the assignment. Considering the amount of time students will have had to complete their work, the work-in-progress that is submitted is expected to be substantial. If a student who has been given an extension does not submit their work-in-progress by the original due date of the assignment then the extension will be automatically withdrawn, and normal assessment guidelines will apply.

Supplementary assessment
Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at UC. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.
Academic integrity involves the ethical, honest and responsible use, creation and sharing of information. It is critical to the quality of higher education. Our academic integrity values are honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage.
UC students have to complete the Academic Integrity Module annually to learn about academic integrity and to understand the consequences of academic integrity breaches (or academic misconduct).
UC uses various strategies and systems, including detection software, to identify potential breaches of academic integrity. Suspected breaches may be investigated, and action can be taken when misconduct is found to have occurred.
Information is provided in the Academic Integrity Policy, Academic Integrity Procedure, and University of Canberra (Student Conduct) Rules 2023. For further advice, visit Study Skills.
Participation requirements
Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all timetabled activities. If a student misses a seminar regardless of reason, it may negatively impact upon their final assessment, due to them having missed important educational information and material. Announcements that are made at seminars, and via class email, are deemed to be made to the whole group.
As well as time tabled activities students are expected to engage with the unit for a further 8 hours per week during semester outside timetabled class time.
Required IT skills
Students are expected to have IT skills compatible with a pass in 8121 Intro to Media Production and to either be currently enrolled in 8120 Editing Sound and Image or to have video editing skills.
