In this unit students will learn the aetiology, pathophysiology, and therapeutic principles of common diseases and disorders. They will integrate knowledge gained from pre-requisite to explore the evidence and reasoning in clinical guideline recommendations, and selecting appropriate action based on an informed decision. Students will also develop their skills by designing a clinical management plan for patients with multiple diseases and medications.
1. Provide detailed description and explanation of the aetiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, drug management and monitoring of the disease states covered;
2. Critically evaluate reliable sources of information to inform a patient-centred care recommendation;
3. Integrate clinical evidence for patient management using the principles of evidence-based medicine;
4. Integrate and reflect on knowledge gained from pre-requisite units to design management plans in response to individual patients' needs; and
5. Identify the gap in knowledge for current evidence-based practice and apply research and professional field theory to justify the need of future research.
