This unit places emphasis on the relationship between the industrial designer and the research and design for professional practice. Students engage in high level design projects in collaboration with external stakeholders as a means of developing design solutions that respond to users, business, manufacture and issues of sustainability and their effects on society. Professional ethics and responsibility are also integral to this unit and projects.
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the issues involved when developing and responding to a working design brief;
2. Design, detail and document an appropriate design solution in context;
3. Present design using mixed graphic media, 3D models, written reports and oral communication skills; and
4. Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethics and responsibility.

Participation requirements
Full attendance at all lectures, studios and seminars is expected. Students must contact the studio tutor in advance if they are unable to attend. There is a significant link between a student's attendance/participation, and the quality of their learning outcomes demonstrated by the submitted assessable project components. To this end, attendance records are kept and may be used to guide and inform aspects of our evaluation and feedback.
Required IT skills
Students are expected to have advanced skills in software relevant to their selected specialisation, associated with digital composition, presentation and report writing. Specific skills related to the studio can be discussed with your program convenor prior to enrolment.
