The Social Entrepreneurial Project (8917.2)

This unit has a student driven approach in which students as a group are required to undertake an community group project of min 75 hours each student under the supervision of a professional practitioner/mentor. Each student will need to source a professional mentor and the group a faculty of B & G - UC mentor. The group will be exposed to and be student driven in the planning processes, work practices, implementation and evaluation activities. As such students are required to plan, undertake and evaluate the project. They will also prepare and present a 30 minute seminar presentation to share their experiences with other students at the semester's end and undertake a reflective learning journal, mentor relationship and reporting.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. identify and plan a community based project that meets the goals of the organisation and target segment;

2. analyse the group's performance of the management/human related practices, outcomes achieved and identify how could be improved;
3. identify, evaluate and appreciate the personal strengths and weaknesses as a beginning management professional and work toward helping and improving society;
4. working individually and in groups, communicating their experience both orally and in written form, with confidence and clarity;
5. demonstrate entrepreneurial skills including creativity, initiative, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, and resourcefulness;
6. reflect on management/human relation theories and actual professional practice through self directed learning in a community group based project.
