Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
All assessments must adhere to the following submission guidelines:
- Be typewritten or word processed;
- Be 12-point size typeface;
- Be formatted in Times New Roman;
- Have 1.5 line spacing;
- Show page numbers;
- Show word count;
- Use referencing (as appropriate);
- Be either a Word document or a PDF file;
- Be submitted via the Canvas assignment dropbox.
These are not idle guidelines. Publication of work is often contingent on writers following submission guidelines. Failure to adhere to the above guidelines may impact your grade. If you believe that, for creative or other reasons, your work requires a different presentation/submission format to the above, please make special arrangements with your tutor.
Alll work will be subject to plagiarism checking using URKUND.
Submission requirements for the Anthology Project will be discussed in tutorials.
Extensions will authorised by the unit convenor only and only for a valid reason such as illness. A medical certificate or other appropriate documentation must accompany a request for an extension. Lack or personal organisation or pressure of work are not considered valid reasons for an extension. Illness, to some degree, may also not be considered a valid reason for extension. Unless the unit convenor has given you an extension, you must submit each piece of assessable work by the due date or the mark will be reduced by five percentage points per day from the total mark available, as noted in the details of each assessment item in Section 5a of this unit outline. Feedback will not be given for late assignments. If you need an extension, please contact the unit convenor.
Written feedback will be made available for students through the unit's Canvas page once all assignments have been marked and moderated.
Special assessment requirements
There are no special assessment requirements for this unit.
If, but for failing this unit, a student who has received between 45 and 49% for the unit would otherwise complete their degree for graduation, they will be permitted to submit a supplementary essay of 2,000 words on a topic to be advised by the unit convenor.

Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.

Work placement, internships or practicums
**IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ**
To pass the unit:
- All assessment requirements must be submitted.
- All work must be your own.
- All suspected cases of plagiarism will be referred to the Associate Dean, Education in the Faculty of Arts and Design who will determine a penalty which can include failing the assessment item or failing the unit.
- Assignments that have been assessed in another unit cannot be presented for assessment again.
Where appropriate, students in this unit are expected to use a standard academic form for all referencing and annotating. MLA is the preferred form. Students not familiar with this should contact the academic skills office or the library.
Handing in assignments:
Submissions should be made according to the submission requirements outlined in section 5b of this unit outline. Deadlines for submissions must be strictly observed. Any requests for extensions must be made at least one week before submission date and addressed to the Unit Convener directly. In case of lost or missing assignments, ensure you always retain a copy of any assignment submitted.
Returning of assignments:
The lecturer and tutors will nominate suitable times when they will be available for the returning of assignments and provision of feedback. Insofar as assignments are the property of students, the University/Faculty is not required to retain assignments. Assignments not collected or returned to students by the end of week four in the following semester will be discarded. At no time will assignments be left in the hallways or with administrative staff. Students wishing to have their assignments forwarded by mail can provide a
stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Writers have great freedom in their work, but also clear constraints on what they may write and present to others. Consequently, while students may write any story that engages them, in the voice, from the perspective, and using the characterisation they choose, they must also comply with the University of Canberra's Regulation of Student Conduct Rules which requires that students not engage in a course of behaviour that is offensive to a university authority, board or committee, to an officer or employee of the university, or to another student.
