Submission of assessment items
Extensions & Late submissions
Written reports
Written reports should be submitted in a word processor format, readable by MS Word, in A4 portrait format with margins of at least 2 cm. Feedback on assessment items will be given in a constructive and timely manner.
Special assessment requirements
To pass the unit, students must:
- complete and submit all assessment items for marking;
- pass (or have already passed) the Academic Integrity Module (AIM; see also section Academic Integrity);
- achieve a mark of at least 40% in the In-class exam;
- have an aggregate mark of 50% or more.
Academic integrity
Students have a responsibility to uphold University standards on ethical scholarship. Good scholarship involves building on the work of others and use of others' work must be acknowledged with proper attribution made. Cheating, plagiarism, and falsification of data are dishonest practices that contravene academic values. Refer to the University's Student Charter for more information.
To enhance understanding of academic integrity, all students are expected to complete the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) at least once during their course of study. You can access this module within UCLearn (Canvas) through the 'Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism' link in the Study Help site.
Use of Text-Matching Software
The University of Canberra uses text-matching software to help students and staff reduce plagiarism and improve understanding of academic integrity. The software matches submitted text in student assignments against material from various sources: the internet, published books and journals, and previously submitted student texts.
Participation requirements
Attendance at all scheduled classes is expected. Your participation in class activities will enhance your understanding of the unit content and therefore the quality of your assessment responses. Lack of participation may result in your inability to satisfactorily pass assessment items.
Attendance at the scheduled tutorials in weeks 2-5 is required to complete assessment item 1 (tutorial learning journal). In the event of absence, a student will need to produce a medical certificate or have a valid reason for their absence.
Attendance and overall participation in the Unit will be used to help decide borderline cases between the grades of fail, pass, credit, distinction and high distinction. Participation will be demonstrated by involvement in class activities and discussions, attendance, attentiveness and commitment in the Unit.
Required IT skills
Students will need basic computer skills in generic programs including web browsers, email and Microsoft Office software. The written reports must be in word processor format, readable by MS Word. All assessment items (apart from the verbal presentation and class quiz) are to be uploaded to the unit Moodle website.
