Biomechanics 2 (6835.3)

This unit follows on from Biomechanics 1 and is designed to further the student's knowledge on sports biomechanics and biomechanical research techniques. Unit content focuses on the biomechanics of numerous sports skills ranging from kicking and hitting activities to the application of hydrodynamic theory to swimming. Discussion then focuses on a variety of biomechanical research techniques including video based kinematic methodologies, the use of force platforms and EMG analyses.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Assess and differentiate the mechanical factors that influence sporting performance;
2. Compare examples from a variety of different sports to illustrate the role that mechanics has in human movement; and
3. Conduct a quantitative biomechanical analyses of a chosen sport and formulate and communicate meaningful feedback concerning technique modification.
