This unit builds upon and extends the theoretical foundations laid in Intermediate micro and macro-economics. Topics include strategic trade theory; advanced models of the determination of exchange rates such as uncovered interest parity and purchasing power parity and the Dornbusch overshooting models; growth theory; New Keynesian models of the supply-side; game theory models of business behaviour and advanced welfare analysis.

Learning outcomes

1. apply advanced economic techniques of analysis to a range of micro and macroeconomic issues such as growth, trade, business behaviour and welfare.
2. have a sophisticated appreciation of the social and political context in which economic policies are formulated.
