A candidate will be required to undertake original research resulting in a significant contribution to knowledge or understanding and/or the application of knowledge within a particular area of study in the fields of information sciences and engineering. Candidates are expected to spend the first year of the course refining their final thesis topic. Work done in this period will involve literature surveys and the publication of papers on issues in the general field of study. The remaining years of the course will be devoted to the specific thesis topic. In the first year candidates will undertake any coursework that is necessary to equip them to handle material necessary to undertake multi-disciplinary projects. Candidates will present at least one seminar a year on their work to the Division.
