OTPP 2: Developing Practice Competency (12260.1)

This occupational therapy professional practice (OTPP) education unit builds on foundational practice education experiences, providing students with an opportunity to enhance their professional reasoning, communication, and intervention skills in occupational therapy. Through supervised placement, students will apply the occupational therapy process, demonstrating increased autonomy and responsibility. Emphasis is placed on developing collaborative relationships, articulation of evidence-informed decision-making, and reflective practice to support professional growth and competence in delivering person-centred occupational therapy services.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Adapt professional behaviours for ethical and safe occupational therapy practice between routine practice;
2. Apply theories and knowledge of occupation and its relationship with health and wellbeing to inform occupation-centred practice;
3. Determine and demonstrate culturally responsive occupation-centred practice that acknowledges the relationship between health, wellbeing and occupation; and
4. Adapt appropriate communication strategies to build partnerships and enhance occupational participation.
