This unit builds on communication and teamwork skills built in foundational communication and practical units. Module 1 focuses on effective communication within interprofessional teams. Module 2 explores interprofessional roles in practice through interprofessional student simulation-based activities. Module 3 explores leadership in healthcare and focusses on fostering leadership skills for all nurses, recognising that the students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
1. Collaborate and communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team in ways that respect culture and diversity and facilitate shared decision-making;
2. Comprehensively understand consumers as partners and articulates the stakeholders in health care contexts: clients, significant others, and health professionals;
3. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and analyze of interdisciplinary roles and engages in effective teamwork;
4. Demonstrate exemplary communication skills; verbal, non-verbal and written and behaves ethically in all facets of intra-professional, and inter-professional practice; and
5. Critically analyse leadership theories and concepts and reflect on their own leadership performance both as individual practitioner and a member of multi-disciplinary teams.
