In this unit, students will examine the ways in which the Australian Curriculum is designed three-dimensionally to provide scope for educators to integrate its Key Learning Areas conceptually with its General Capabilities and Cross-Curriculum Priorities. Students will appreciate that a purposefully-integrated curriculum draws subjects/discipline areas and subject/discipline experts together in order to shift the focus of learning from content coverage to student-driven, collaborative and in-depth understanding that increases engagement and enhances growth. On this basis, students will utilise a holistic understanding of curriculum as the basis for the teaching of 21st century thinking and skills that lead to increased student confidence and awareness, and the development of future citizens who contribute meaningfully to their communities and their interpersonal relationships.
