Musculoskeletal Interventions 1 (12007.2)

This unit introduces students to physiotherapy management in disorders of the peripheral joints of the human musculoskeletal system following a patient-centred approach. Students will study the pathophysiology and orthopaedic management of common musculoskeletal disorders. Students will learn the clinical reasoning and practical skills required for assessment and intervention. This unit is co-taught with unit 6449 Musculoskeletal Interventions 1 PG.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Apply foundational knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, and pathophysiology to assess and manage peripheral conditions;
2. Conduct safe and effective clinical assessments using structured reasoning to support diagnosis and management planning;
3. Interpret assessment findings and relevant evidence to explain physiotherapy decisions and treatment options;
4. Plan and implement physiotherapy interventions using clinical reasoning to prioritise problems, apply evidence-informed strategies, and consider input from other health professionals; and
5. Demonstrate understanding of how cultural identity, values, and lived experience influence person-centred and culturally responsive care.
