Collaborative partnerships with families and communities are essential to providing high-quality early childhood education and care. Successful collaborative partnerships are based on respectful relationships and effective communication. The unit will develop preservice teachers' understanding of the diversity, complexity and changing nature of contemporary families and communities and their interpersonal and communication skills. This unit complements the Pedagogy of Relationships unit.
1. Explain the importance of respectful partnerships with families and communities in bringing about optimal children's development;
2. Describe organisations and services in the community with which you can build partnerships; and
3. Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills for effective interactions with families and communities in a range of early learning contexts, including Indigenous, migrant, refugee and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
