This unit explores young children's health and wellbeing in the early years. Students will study childhood illness and disease, health and wellbeing, and movement guidelines and the research and theory that sits behind them. Contemporary issues such as vaccinations, mental health, screen time, childhood obesity will also be investigated. The unit focuses on the promotion of health and wellbeing and how to meet professional responsibilities set by regulatory frameworks and legislative requirements.
1. Explain and adhere to current government requirements and policies related to the health and wellbeing of young children in early childhood education and care settings;
2. Describe contemporary health and wellbeing issues and ways to reduce the risks associated with them;
3. Describe the importance of nutrition, physical activity, sleep, health and safety in young children's development and learning based on current research and theory; and
4. Plan, implement and reflect on learning experiences and environments that promote health and wellbeing in young children.
