Using a holistic woman-centred approach, this unit will draw on midwifery, medical, pharmacological and other theory and research to develop students' midwifery knowledge and skills to assist women who are experiencing complexity across the childbearing continuum. This unit will assist students to form useful midwifery relationships with women when they require extra midwifery and medical care. Midwifery understanding gained in this unit will be applied to the corresponding practical unit.
1. Apply midwifery, medical, pharmacological and other theory as it applies to the provision of care for the childbearing woman experiencing complexity across the continuum;
2. Demonstrate application of the elements of interpersonal and interdisciplinary communication required in midwifery care provision; and
3. Analyse and synthesise research evidence in the provision of complex midwifery practice.
