This unit responds to increasing awareness for governments and the community at large of the particular healthcare challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This unit will explore contemporary issues affecting relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-First nations Australians in the context of generational and intergenerational healthcare outcomes.
1. Critically reflect on historical and contemporary issues affecting the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians;
2. Develop knowledge, skills and attitudes for positive engagement with and between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that enable reconciled healthcare relationships in both the delivery of care and between those involved in healthcare delivery; and
3. Interpret, critically analyse and discuss data that specifically relates to health outcomes for First Nations Australians.

4. UC graduates are able to demonstrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing - apply their knowledge to working with Indigenous Australians in socially just ways
4. UC graduates are able to demonstrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing - communicate and engage with Indigenous Australians in ethical and culturally respectful ways
4. UC graduates are able to demonstrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing - use Indigenous histories and traditional ecological knowledge to develop and augment understanding of their discipline
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:1. Critically reflect on historical and contemporary issues affecting the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians;
