This unit provides HDR candidates with some of the specialised skills and knowledge required to undertake a PhD project. Students in the unit will be introduced to the UC Researcher Skills Development Framework (RSDF), focusing on Q1 of the RSDF, and will develop understandings and capacity in: Time management and planning; Wellbeing; Goal setting; Professional development; and Issues of equity and diversity in research and professional practice. They will undertake a professional development audit and gaps analysis and plan a professional development pathway to undertake throughout their doctoral studies.
1. Conceptually map and develop their doctoral research project, including milestones;
2. Strategise for time management, workload balance, and contingencies;
3. Reflect on their current capacity to manage the professional and practical elements of their research and evaluate challenges; and
4. Formulate strategies to problem solve challenges during the course of their candidature.
Learning outcomes
After successful completion of this unit, HDR candidates will be equipped to:1. Conceptually map and develop their doctoral research project, including milestones;

3. Reflect on their current capacity to manage the professional and practical elements of their research and evaluate challenges; and
