Design Contextualisation 2 centres the discussion of ethical and sustainable practices in fashion. The unit introduces students to a range of innovative technologies and industrial machinery. Students will continue to contextualise their applied practice and increase their skill base in relation to critical analysis and evaluation through the articulation of self-appraisal. Through external engagement, students are given the opportunity to consolidate their understanding of the fashion industry. Students will combine creative, practical, intellectual and entrepreneurial skills within an industrial context to respond to a brief.
1. Discuss ethical and environmental considerations in relation to the textile, clothing and footwear industries which impact on design directions and decisions;
2. Present a series of highly creative design developments and solutions through the presentation of a professional design portfolio;
3. Develop an experimental approach in order to realise design concepts throughout the industry product development cycle; and
4. Select and apply appropriate technologies for pattern and garment construction in relation to differing textiles materials.
