This unit will build on Growing as a Leader in Health (Unit 11587) and develop the learners' skills in resource planning allocation and priority setting. Practical real-world tasks will allow students to practice key skills in health resource allocation. This unit will culminate in an intensive face to face workshop which will consolidate theoretical concepts and enable learners to apply these concepts to practical scenarios.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse and evaluate core and contemporary concepts and theories of health resource management;
2. Identify and discuss factors impacting on priority setting and budgeting using evidence based decision making frameworks;
3. Make ethical, socially responsible and sustainable business decisions in a complex health environment demonstrating a high level of personal autonomy and accountability; and
4. Communicate complex and difficult decisions as a manager and/or leader and as appropriate for different audiences.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Students are permitted to use generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in assessments in this unit.

GenAI may only be used in authorised ways when completing assessment at UC. This means that GenAI can only be used for an assessment when:

  1. the Unit Convener has authorised GenAI use for that assessment;
  2. the student used GenAI in the way that the assessment instructions allow;
  3. the student fully acknowledges their use of GenAI, with proper citations, references, and a GenAI Acknowledgement Statement in line with the assessment instructions.

Where the assessment instructions do not specifically state that GenAI may be used and how, then its use is not permitted for that assessment. Students must still provide the required GenAI Acknowledgement Statement to indicate whether GenAI has or has not been used in the preparation of the assessment.
