Coach Communication PG (11583.1)

Following analysis of the role of the strength and conditioning coach, this unit will develop the communication skills of the student and provide strategies for effective communication to a variety of sports-based roles and athlete types. You will explore aspects related to verbal, non-verbal, written and visual communication and how they can be applied to athletes from diverse backgrounds and sports. Using reflective practice, you will establish your current communication style and evaluate its effectiveness against others. This unit will provide the framework for leadership and effective communication to be applied throughout your coaching career.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse different coaching communication styles for the purpose of information transfer;
2. Evaluate and reflect on personal coaching styles in the context of evidence-based theory; and
3. Explain the role of the strength and conditioning coach and their integration within a athlete preparation team.
