In this unit, you will acquire core skills and knowledge to reach the next stage of your career as a government lawyer. This begins with a deep, contextual understanding of multi-faceted role and ethical requirements of government legal practice. You will learn how to navigate complex issues of government power and policy development that span multiple portfolios and levels of government. The unit also equips you with the research and communication skills to operate in the constantly evolving environment of government legal practice. You will be assessed on your ability to apply your skills and knowledge in this area with particular attention to evidence of your understanding of the public service ethos. You will also build an ePortfolio of evidence of your developing public service ethos.
1. Evaluate the distinctive and dynamic professional role of government lawyers from a global perspective responsive to diversity, innovation and sustainability;
2. Apply regulatory frameworks governing government lawyers to solve complex problem scenarios with advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills; and
3. Demonstrate effective research, communication and legal reasoning skills as well as ethical, self-reflective professional judgement in drafting legal advice to government in relation to a topical problem scenario.
