Equity Law PG (11442.1)

The areas examined include principles of equitable doctrines and equitable remedies, the nature of the trust, the concept of fiduciary duties, the nature of trustees, and an introduction to succession.

This unit may be co-taught with an undergraduate version of the unit.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Explain and apply the principal doctrines and remedies of equity and the law of trusts;
2. Synthesis a critical analysis of equitable principles and institutions and the potential for future development of those principles and institutions;
3. Provide advice on the application of equitable principles (including the law of trusts) in given complex fact situations; and
4. Apply effective legal communication, research and negotiation skills and apply them to equity law problems.

Prerequisites

This unit is only available to students in the Juris Doctor, Master of Laws, Master of Legal Studies, Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies or Graduate Certificate in Legal Studies courses.

Students must have passed 11431 Foundations of Law and Justice G or equivalent.
